On a monthly basis, in July, the 16% increase in number of passengers was achieved. The first Saturday of August already registered daily record high number of passengers in the history of Split Airport, indicating the good continuation of the season.

 

 

 

 

Croatian national carrier Croatia Airlines registered millionth passenger this year, on Monday, 28th July 2014. Jubilee passenger, Ms Jelena Nincevic, arrived to Split from Paris, on flight OU 475. Jelena, Croatian with permanent address in Paris, where she lives and works, could not wish better beginning of her holiday.

 

At a ceremony held at Split Airport, Mr. Ivan Druzeta, Croatia Airlines Sales and Marketing Manager, awarded the millionth passenger with two return tickets to international destination at her choice. On behalf of Split Airport, Mr. Ante Teklic, Assistant General Manager, presented the lucky passenger with voucher in value of 200 €, usable in Split Airport Duty Free Shop.

 

 

Split Airport traffic figures and statistics show the biggest passenger and aircraft growth ever registered at the beginning of summer season. This trend is expected to continue.

 

 

On 30th March 2014, besides switching to daylight saving time, we switch from winter to summer timetable. According to so far agreed schedules, Split Airport expects about 4-5% increase of passenger traffic in relation to last year, what announces another successful tourist season.

 

A total of 2,139,706 seats on direct flights between Split and 80 destinations in 22 states inside and outside European Union are booked. Novelty in this summer announcements represent flights from entirely new markets, Greece and Scotland.


New destinations are introduced from earlier connected markets like Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Italy and Ukraine. This summer, we expect passengers from Aalborg, Stockholm – Bromma, Karlstad, Visby, Brussels, Salerno and Lvov.


At this moment, we may confirm that totally 46 air carriers announced their flights to Split. We can also anticipate additional charter flights. Significant number of private aircrafts will arrive as well, as noticed in all past years summer months.


The increased interest in Split-Dalmatia County is shown in almost all markets connected with direct flights to Split Airport. According to announcements, an earlier beginning of flights in April and May is noticeable in addition to traffic increase. Consequently, we conclude that preseason figures could be more positive in relation to the previous year.


Split Airport recorded a turnover of 1,581,734 passengers in year 2013, i.e. an increase of 10.9% compared to year 2012.

 

 

A large Demonstration Emergency Exercise called “Bird Strike 2014” was held at Split Airport, on 26th March, 2014. This exercise represents one of regular activities aiming to raising readiness of all services, and preparing for summer season flight timetable which, this year, starts on 30th March.


The exercise simulated an aircraft accident happened on behalf of take off. According to scenario, while running on the runway a collision between aircraft and birds happened. Due to engine damage the aircraft crew gave up the take of and initiated emergency braking. Consequently, and because of main landing gear tire rupture, the aircraft slid off the runway ending with considerable damages and large number of casualties.

 

The event is realised together with external services. Alongside with Split Airport staff, it included participation of Resnik Airport Police Station, Croatian Air Traffic Control – Branch Office Split, INA Avioservis – Split, National Protection and Rescue Directorate – Split Regional Office, County Centre 112, State Intervention Unit, Helicopter Transport Unit – Divulje, Red Cross Kastela, Emergency Medicine Institute – Branch Office Kastela, Voluntary Fire Departments of Kastel Gomilica, Kastel Sucurac, Trogir, Public Fire Department – Split, Funeral Company Lovrinac, Town of Kastela, Split and Trogir Headquarters, as well as Split-Dalmatia County Headquarters.

 

“Bird Strike 2014” Exercise was held in the presence of colleagues from other airports of Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was also attended by representatives of Croatia Airlines, foreign countries embassy and consular departments, Civil Aviation Agency, Air, Sea and Road Accident Investigation Agency, Association of Traffic Engineers AMAC, FSC, and others.
