Environmental Protection and Preservation Of Cultural Heritage

Split Airport gives great attention to environmental horticultural design. Today, Parking Area in front of Passenger Terminal represents botanical garden. Numerous passengers and tourists passing through the airport enjoy its beauty.

Split Airport also takes care about preservation of Mediterranean tradition. Within that framework, the olive grove with 850 olive trees is planted, extending across 13000 m2.

Inside airport boundaries, there is a small medieval stone church "St Bare" (St Bartholomew), Split Airport patron. It was built at the end of 13th and the beginning of 14th century, and is situated at the hill, near olive grove.

Environmental Protection Management includes Waste Management. An internal document – Split Airport Waste Management Plan – is made. The stated document defines organisational structure and technical/technological waste handling processes. All processes are performed in accordance with legal regulations.

Great attention is paid to rising ecological consciousness of employees and to education regarding importance or recycling.

In its future environmental protection activities, Split Airport plans the implementation of renewable energy resources and modern methods and equipment, aiming at continuous following of global environmental protection trends.
