Split Airport was constructed in Kastela, the picturesque town developed from seven villages that were formed and expanded over centuries around beautiful castles built along Kastela Bay.
Situated in the centre of Dalmatia, it serves the wide area from Riviera Makarska on one side to Sibenik and its Riviera and National Parks on the other, and from the sea port of Split gates are wide open towards Central Dalmatian islands.
It is at 20 km distance from Split, known for 1700 years of history, with wonderful, well preserved Diocletian Palace inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List, and much more that can be seen and enjoyed, including excellent gastronomic offer in pleasant and interesting ambiences.
Near by are Trogir, museum town the old part of which is also inscribed on UNESCO List, and remains of ancient Roman metropolis Salona, nowadays town of Solin.
