Today, for second time in its history, Split Airport has welcomed the three-millionth passenger. The passenger arrived on Croatia Airlines flight OU 413 from Frankfurt. Her name is Mrs. Caroline Undseth.
It is the result of positive trend of growth in the passenger and air traffic numbers, particularly during the summer period. Namely, during first nine months, Split Airport records 6% growth of passenger traffic in relation to the same last year period. In July alone, over 723.000 passengers passed through Split Airport, what represents the record one-month number of passengers in the history, not only of Split Airport, but of Croatian airports in general. According to air carriers announcements, the trends of passenger and aircraft numbers growth will continue in the postseason, too.
On behalf of arrival of three-millionth passenger, Split Airport has organised a small party at which Mr. Luksa Novak, General Manager, congratulated the lucky passenger and presented her with the occasional gift. Also, on behalf of Croatia Airlines, Mr. Slaven Žabo, Director Commercial Division, handed her two return tickets on one of their flights, at choice of Mrs. Caroline Undseth.
On Saturday, employees of Split Airport celebrated of their patron St. Bartholomew.
A holy mass was held on a plateau in front of the medieval church of St. Bartholomew, which is open to visitors only once a year. In addition to the employees and guests of the Split Airport, the mass was attended by a larger number of believers from surrounding parishes.
Today we opened the new part of Split Airport Passenger Terminal. The construction had started in January, 2017, and the Occupancy Permit was obtained on 11th July, 2019. New part of the Passenger Terminal was opened by Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Andrej Plenkovic, in the presence of Ministers, Mr. Oleg Butkovic and Mr. Tomislav Coric, and many distinguished guests.
The whole construction covered the surface of about 125.000 m2.
The project included enlargement of Passenger Terminal and construction of Car Parking Lot, Bus Terminal and Passenger Footbridge, Also, it will be followed by reconstruction of the existing Passenger Terminal. In that way, Split Airport has enlarged the Passenger Terminal with a three story annex, with a total of 35.000 new m2, so that, including the existing terminal, there are 50.000 m2 of passenger area altogether. This ensures the high standard of handling the 2.500 passengers during peak hours. Total Passenger Terminal capacity (newly built and the old one) covers 5 million passengers per year.
The new Car Parking Lot with 900 parking places, at 30.000 m2, and the Bus Terminal with 50 parking places, at 40.000 m2, are constructed south of D409 State Road.
Extension and reconstruction of Passenger Terminal coordinates the capacities with the expected traffic demands, meeting the high levels of security and service quality, as well as ensuring the preconditions for realization of EU Standards (Schengen Criteria) for international border crossings.
Current growth of Split Airport passenger traffic amounts to 8% compared to last year. We handled over 515.000 passengers in June, and we anticipate about 700.000 passengers in July. This year, we expect the total of some 3,3 million passengers.
