From this day, Middle Dalmatia is richer for an up to now not seen project successfully realised from the side of the Tourist Board of Split-Dalmatia County and St. Jerome Airport. A piano is placed at the Airport, at the spot called "Where Music Takes Flight".
The role models for the idea are some of the most important tourist destinations in the world. Different musicians will exchange on a daily basis, playing the greatest Dalmatian and World hits. Also, the piano will be accessible for the public. meaning that anybody interested may test his musical skills.
The formal ceremony of the event was graced by the students of Josip Hatze Musical School accompanied by a piano teacher Tonci Tranfic and soprano Klara Cipcic.
Ms. Ivana Vladovic, Split-Dalmatia Tourist Board Director, pointed out pride and happiness for the project that links art and tourism at the most frequent spot, the Airport.
"From this place millions of guests arrive in our County, and then get to know Dalmatia all over. They admire its beauty, cultural heritage, gastronomy, and tradition. Yes, tradition is particularly important. Most of the guests return to a determined destination because of people, tradition and customs of a society they get linked or identified with.
That is exactly why we came up with the idea to present Dalmatia through the piano. Dalmatia is song itself, and it has given countless musicians and singers. For thousands of years our area has been ennobled by music. It is woven into the DNA of Dalmatian people.
Art is a great link among men. Just like tourism. It is without prejudices, without limits, causing personalized, unique emotion in every man, and Dalmatia is, with no doubt, a cradle of Croatian art, as well as an inexhaustible source of inspiration bursting with emotions, loudness, colours... Therefore, we do not want, and we shall never allow artistic, i.e. musical heritage of Dalmatia to fall into oblivion. For, as I always like to say, tourism is not made of walls, sea and sun. First of all, it is made of people. This piano celebrates these very men without whom Dalmatia would not be Dalmatia. It is a special monument that will welcome and greet all our guests, placing into their ears a long lasting memory of the destination to which they gladly came, and to which they will gladly return"
Mr. Blazenko Boban, the Prefect of Split-Dalmatia County, was present at this event.
In his words "This is a beautiful manifestation which evokes in us the memory of Dalmatia in which singing occurs spontaneously, in squares, in allies, among people. I am sure that all guests will be delighted with listening to music, and that many will have a try in playing the piano themselves, taking their homes eternal memories of Dalmatia. Although this event is dedicated to the notes of Tijardovic and Gotovac (Croatian composers from Split), this piano is also a dedication to all known and unknown Dalmatian artists whose rhymes and notes accompanied us through celebrations, sorrows, and life itself."
Mr. Luksa Novak, St. Jerome Airport General Manager, added that an airport is not only a place of arrival and departure, but also the place of encounter with the new destination, and the first place which every passenger experiences with all his senses.
"I am really happy for this project, especially because the numbers and analysis suggest that this summer more than 12 million guests will arrive in Croatia with different airlines. We have to offer our guests a new user experience, while they are waiting for their flights, hanging around, or just want to relax and sing."
Olive harvest is in progress at Split Airport. Two days of harvesting were spent in a good mood. We picked 10.000 kg of olives that were immediately processed into 1.800 liters of high-quality oil.
Harvesting continues as soon as the weather permits.
