Environmental protection

Split Airport gives great attention to environmental horticultural design. Today, the parking area in front of the passenger terminal serves as a botanical garden, offering its beauty to numerous tourists passing through the airport.

Split Airport also takes care to preserve Mediterranean tradition, and as part of this effort, an olive grove has been planted, covering an area of 13,000 m2 and containing nearly 1,000 olive trees.

Within the grounds of Split Airport stands the small stone medieval church of “St Bare” (St Bartholomew), the patron of Split Airport. The stone church dates back to the late 13th and early 14th century and is located on a hill near the olive grove.

As part of environmental protection management, special attention is given to waste management practices. An internal document has been developed – the “Split Airport Waste Management Plan”. The stated document defines the organizational structure and technical-technological processes for waste management. All processes are carried out in accordance with legal regulations.

Great attention is given to raising environmental awareness among employees and educating them on the importance of recycling.

In its future environmental protection activities, Split Airport plans to implement renewable energy systems and apply modern methods and equipment with the aim of continuously monitoring global trends in environmental protection.
